The Accidental Author The What Why Where When Who How Book Promotion Series 1 eBook Sarah Jane Butfield

This is just about the best advice I ever heard - especially for we females who were raised to value security over success and to believe that a LADY spotlights the achievements of others while remaining modestly in the background. This particular lady has faced numerous hardships in her life, but found out that she needed all her strength and self-confidence to survived the jungle that is modern self-publishing.

I suspect that most people who buy this book are already fans of Ms. Butfield's popular books about her years of living first in Australia, then in France. I recently acquired her TWO DOGS AND A SUITCASE but hadn't read it yet and was into this book before I made the connection. So I wasn't a fan before, but I am now. She writes with such humor and skill and enthusiasm that I can't wait to get started
on her other books.

Having fallen into self-publishing and learned a great deal by trial-and-error, she generously shares her wisdom with other writers facing the same daunting task. I'm NOT an author (and never will be) but I love reading Indie authors and her story of how she found her way through the minefields is fascinating to me. While I'm speaking as an on-looker, not a participant, everything she says makes sense to me and squares with what I've learned from other Indie authors.

If you've self-published or are thinking about it, you should read this book. If you're a reader and want to know more about the emerging industry that makes so many wonderful books available to us, you'll also be interested. And if you just want to read the entertaining, inspiring story of a gutsy woman who has succeeded in spite of some tall obstacles, you won't be disappointed.

I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series.

The Accidental Author The What Why Where When Who How Book Promotion Series 1 eBook Sarah Jane Butfield Reviews

The amusing title of this book gives us an idea straight away of the style in which Sarah Jane Butfield writes – personal, funny, and willing to be helpful. I really enjoyed this book. The personal elements are reminiscent of her earlier memoir books, and we feel as if we are having a valuable conversation with a friend who knows what she's talking about, rather than being instructed from on high. This is a very practical book, taking the new writer along the path Sarah Jane has followed herself right from the start, with her experience on Authonomy (and her escape from a vanity publisher!); her attempts to find a publisher; and her final decision to self publish. The real need to set up an 'Internet platform' and how to do it are spelt out clearly and concisely. In fact, the whole book can be described as clear and concise, and full of useful tips and ideas. If, like most new writers, you are finding out for yourself how hard it is to be accepted by an established publisher, this book will give you encouragement and assistance, and will start you off in the right direction. Sarah Jane Butfield deserves high praise for her decision to share her own experience with other first time writers. For her, the glass is always 'Half Full' and if you read this book, yours will be, also. Well done, Sarah Jane! Warmly recommended.
Great book, concise, and informative.
I read Ms. Butfield's previous book about their travels to France and subsequent home-improvement (mis)adventures, and can see why she has gone to the trouble to share all the tips she gives here for self-publishing. My husband went through a somewhat similar experience when trying to have his PhD published a few years ago, and I would recommend these ideas and certainly appreciate Sarah Jane's desire to assist others in becoming authors. She has a big heart!
I was disappointed because this short book was like an appetizer and an advertisement for the author's 'next book in the series.'
I liked the brief in bit of formation, but the author wrote numerous paragraphs promoting and describing the contents of her next book 'in the series'.
I felt like I'd been had, and I was glad I read this as a free download. I'd hate to have paid for an author promotion.
This is a short book that gets you into a series about how to self publish and the journey the author experienced along the way. While I was only marginally interested in the journey, the information and links to further information was helpful. I'm looking forward to trying out some of the things noted and reading more of the books in the series.
I could barely believe I was reading words that answered my many questions as well as some that had not entered my head yet. She hits the nail on the head about so many different points, that I am glassy eyed. She mentions a Facebook site that helps other authors and I heartily agree! Tom Winton Helping Authors is a great group. I highly recommend this to authors who can't NOT write...and then get lost in the marketing part afterward. You can bet I will get the sequel.
After reading The Accidental Author, I think Ms. Butfield can add mentor, inspirational speaker, cheerleader and eternal optimist to her lists of credentials. As I devoured the words of this book, I felt a kinship to the author on a personal and professional level. With a kind and open heart she shares the gold nuggets of her wisdom and experience. Through book 1 in this series and, with the ones to follow, she offers all Indies the greatest gift of all—a personal guide through the minefield of self-publishing. I am eagerly awaiting the release of The Amateur Authorpreneur.
